Pinwheel Names is a baby-name tool with supporting guides. We collect as little as a website reasonably can, and this page says plainly what that is.
Who we are
Pinwheel Names is operated by Pinwheelbabynames, contactable at hello@pinwheelbabynames.online. That address is the fastest way to reach us about anything on this page, including a request to access or delete data.
What we collect
Things you type. The library search and comparison worksheet accept text. The worksheet does not save it automatically or send it to a server. There is no account, sign-up form or newsletter. The wheel code processes your filters and name selections inside your browser; it does not send these selections to a Pinwheel backend.
Your shortlist. Names you save are written to your browser's local storage under the key pinwheel:shortlist. This is a store on your own device. We cannot read it, it is not transmitted anywhere, and clearing your browsing data removes it. Your running ticket count is stored under pinwheel:ticketNumber. An older version may have left a pinwheel:consent value; this version does not use it.
Hosting requests. Your browser sends information such as your IP address and requested page to the hosting provider to load the site. The provider may retain request logs for operations and security. Contact us with questions about hosting data.
Advertising
Advertising is not currently enabled in this version. The site includes an AdSense publisher verification meta tag and an ads.txt file. These identify the publisher; they do not load an advertising script or display ads.
If advertising is introduced, this page will be updated to describe the providers and choices available before ad serving is enabled.
Comparison and printing
The comparison page reads your saved shortlist only when you press its import button. Worksheet names and notes stay in page memory until you leave or reload. If you print or save a PDF, the resulting copy is managed by your browser and device. The library and comparison pages load no analytics script.
Local storage
The shortlist and ticket counter use storage on your device. Remove saved names with the shortlist controls, or clear this site's browser data to remove all local values. Clearing site data cannot remove information already held by a hosting or third-party provider.
Third-party services
- Ahrefs Web Analytics — the homepage loads a script from analytics.ahrefs.com to measure website usage. Loading it makes a request to Ahrefs. See Ahrefs privacy policy for its data practices.
- Google Fonts — fonts are requested from Google when pages load, making your IP address visible to that service. See Google privacy policy.
- Website hosting — the hosting service receives page and asset requests so it can deliver the website.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Contact us using the address above with questions or requests about your data.
Children
This site is written for adults choosing a name for a child. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Accuracy of name meanings
Name meanings and origins are provided for interest. Etymology is often contested, and reputable sources disagree. Nothing here is professional, legal or genealogical advice.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of the page. Please review this page for changes to the services used by the site.
